A Refreshing Opportunity: Climate LIVE K12 Sessions Are Back!
As climate change continues to challenge our world, education has never been more important. This is where the Climate LIVE K12 series steps in, presenting a chance for learners across various age groups to connect with experts and engage in vital climate discussions. Kicking off in October 2025 and running through June 2026, this free online resource hosted by Columbia Climate School invites everyone from middle schoolers to adults eager to broaden their understanding of climate issues.
Understanding Our Climate: What to Expect This Season
The 2025-26 season of Climate LIVE K12 features a rich lineup of topics focusing on critical aspects of climate and sustainability. Each session is designed to be interdisciplinary and accessible, appealing to students, educators, and the general public.
For instance, in the introductory session, Exploring Biodiversity: Life on Land and in the Water, attendees learn how living creatures interact within ecosystems and why their survival matters. Other sessions, such as Revisiting the Montreal Protocol, showcase historical environmental victories, reminding us of the positive impact collective human action can yield—an inspiring message for everyone, particularly the youth.
The Role of Youth in Climate Action
One of the standout themes this season is youth engagement. Students will hear firsthand experiences from past participants of the Green Mountains Program, illustrating how young people are not just passive recipients of climate knowledge but active agents of change. The session titled Careers for a Changing Climate particularly emphasizes the myriad pathways young individuals can embark upon, from volunteering to internships, to contributing to significant policy dialogues.
Accessible and Inclusive Learning
The sessions will take place monthly, with each lasting just 30 minutes; they are intentionally designed to accommodate a busy schedule while still packing valuable content. Plus, with pre-registration, participants not only gain access to these live events but also to recorded sessions available on the Climate School's YouTube channel.
This accessibility makes it easier for everyone—from educators who want to enhance their curriculum to curious individuals simply wanting to learn more about climate solutions—to join in and engage with these crucial conversations.
